Join the 20,000 fans of steeplechasing in the open countryside and gather on the rail for the 87th Radnor Hunt Races on Saturday, May 20, 2017.
We are Racing for Open Space. Proceeds from the Radnor Hunt Races benefit the open space and clean water programs of the Brandywine Conservancy. The Conservancy has protected over 62,000 acres to date. Come and enjoy the racing over the rolling hills of Radnor Hunt in Malvern. You will experience an exciting and beautiful step back in time and maybe start a spring tradition for your family and friends.
Plan to “Frolic Along the Brandywine”
The Radnor Hunt Races, celebrating 87 wonderful years in 2017, is built on many traditions – thoroughbred horses at the peak of athleticism, beautiful horse-drawn carriages, dramatic flowered hats, and families cheering along the rail. Perhaps one of the most celebrated traditions though, is the famous themed tailgate – where imaginations run wild.
The Picnic Patron tailgating area is the place to see and be seen. Elaborate spreads, decorated tents and coordinated costumes carefully take into account each year’s theme. After weeks of tireless effort and planning, the parties are carefully evaluated by local celebrity judges - with one party reigning supreme.
The Race Committee, our dedicated group of volunteers who work all year long on this spring tradition, would like to announce that this year’s theme will be “Frolic Along the Brandywine,” in honor of the late George A. “Frolic” Weymouth, one of the founders of the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art. Frolic was a visionary conservationist, a highly-talented artist and accomplished sportsman. He was an inspiration to us all.
