NOTE:  If you set up your picnic on the rail and do not want to park your car there, you must purchase a $100 East Infield Parking pass for your car.  Your car will be parked near the railside picnic area. Remember each East Infield Tailgate spot is one 10-foot rail.  You cannot use more than one rail for parking and picnic.

A popular race day plan is for someone to purchase the railside spot and arrive early to park at their choice of rail spots. Friends can purchase parking passes in the East Infield Parking area and join the party on the rail, a short walk away.  Please respect the surrounding parties and limit your group to 14 per 10-foot rail.

The Picnic Patron area is the place to see and be seen in tailgating competition. Be creative and win prizes. This year’s theme Hill-Billy Wedding. Back in the early 18th century, there was a family of distillers located in Chadds Ford known as the Brandy-Winers and farther north in Malvern a family of food purveyors known as the Radnor Hunters.

They traded food for booze from the first time they met and eventually the son of Throckmorton Hill, the leader of the Brandy-Winers, who lived on an opulent estate known as Little Muddy Pond proposed to the daughter of Phineous Billy, the head of the Radnor Hunters who lived in the manor house known as Termite Hill Farm.

They married in May of 1718 and after gaining permission from their descendants we are able to celebrate the anniversary of the joining of those two great families, the Hills and the Billys. On Race Day the picnic patron area will host the 300th reunion of the Hill-Billy Wedding.
